“The only rock I know that is steady, the only institution I know that works, is the family.”

I love this quote from former Chrysler CEO, Lee Iacocca. It tells me that when the going gets rough, you can always rely on your family to be there with support.

Or can you?

These days, with marriages on life support, teenagers who are checked out, and aging parents to consider or care for, one of the toughest things my coaching clients have to work through is a family situation that’s stressful, heartbreaking or simply needs attention.

Sometimes, one small step can make a huge improvement and put families back on the road to being that supportive, steadfast unit they were designed to be.

What’s one small step you can take to improve your marriage, family relationships, boundaries, house rules, or living situation? Could you . . .

• Schedule a date night with your spouse?

• Have that “conversation” with your aging parent?

• Establish a morning routine for younger children?

• Set boundaries with your argumentative brother?

Today, I’d like to challenge you to take that step to calm the chaos and improve your family life—especially if your marriage needs attention. What’s one thing you can do this week? Drop a comment below and share it (but, hey, nothing too personal, okay?).
